Dance is a highly appreciated art form and sport that is practiced by hundreds of cultures, religions, and teams worldwide. It exists in many genres and is available to anyone with a passion and drive. Many people falsely believe that dance is just an art form and do not consider it a sport, but on the contrary, dance is very much an art form and very much a sport. Dancers must be extremely athletic, able to practice and train hard for hours on end, and train in an extremely competitive environment, just like the athletes on various sports teams.

In order to be successful, an athlete must be in peak physical form to thrive in their own sport. Dancers spend hours on end performing single movements in order to perfect them, for they know, a single mistake can cause an entire to dance to derail in an instant. They spend hours on end conditioning and strengthening their muscles to gain flexibility, power, and muscle strength. Dancers must have an incredibly strong core to handle and control the amount of movement that their body is performing. The difficult and strenuous workouts that dancers go through compare to those of any football, basketball, or soccer player. Dancers must not only be physically toned, but they must have high levels of stamina and endurance in order to survive their incredibly long rehearsals.

Athletes must prepare for each and every event they participate in. An athlete cannot succeed if they do not have the mental focus and physical strength for long hours of preparation for their events. Dancers must face incredibly long hours of conditioning, rehearsals, and never-ending repetition of movements and steps. Many people cannot fathom the tedious amount of work that goes into any single movement a dancer must perform. To perfect a single movement, they must repeat it until their body has memorized it and can perform it flawlessly. Dancers must not only worry about the way their bodies move, but the way their face performs to an audience. Perfecting every single component of a routine adds long hours of practice to any dancer's schedule.

The competitive environment involved within the sport of dance is unbelievable. Dancers go to incredible lengths just to win and succeed in the competitions they participate in. Recently, even television programs such as "So You Think You Can Dance" were created to document the hardships and high levels of competition that these athletes must face. They strain, overwork, and push their bodies until they simply can't be pushed anymore. They stop at nothing and do anything to win competitions, and be recognized by judges, fans, and audiences.

Overall, dancers are not only artists, but they are also athletes just as other who perform in various sports like volleyball, basketball, football, and soccer. They have extremely powerful bodies and mindsets that keep them motivated and allow them to win in their extremely competitive lifestyles. Dancers are incredibly athletic, train for complete days and hours to perfect their routines just as any athlete would to perfect their free throw or serve, and compete constantly to win.
