My Role Model

My Role Model
In my life I have had very few role models. They have been generally people I knew or worked with in the military, but they have been the ones I could always go to for advice. As I have gotten older and mature I have realize that more than just these people can be role models to me. For me one of my best role models is my friend Marvin.

Marvin and I are a lot alike in some ways. We both grew up with strong father figures and had very supportive mothers who love us very much. Marvin is three years younger than me and we have been friends for about ten years. We have both served together in the Middle East and other installations around the world. To begin to understand why I look up to Marvin we will first have to learn about his past and where he is now.

Marvin grew up in a very caring home where his parent’s believed in good strong family tides. He went to school and excellence in academics and sports like the rest if his brothers and sisters. Marvin attended First Baptist Church on Wednesdays and Sunday and sang in the choir. His mom also support him by working as Choir Director, although she was charge he still needed her wisdom and guidance to be a faith church member.

During his tour in the Navy Marvin worked on the ship and hung out with a variety of people. Some were good others were not so good. Eventually he fell into to the so called "party scene". He started getting into drinking, and hanging out with too many women. After a while Marvin really stop caring about what other people thought of his life. Even as he was doing this he continued to go to church and act as if everything was fine. His work performance started going downhill with him drinking so much. He was doing this while he was still going to church on a regular basis. He eventually turned to the church for help and attending counseling to kick his drinking habit. .
